Our Approach

MicroFauna is here to make the invisible parts of the landscape easier to understand. We look at soil health, plant performance, and structure-pruning needs as one system—then turn what we find into clear next steps that fit your property and the way it’s already cared for.

The Process

Most clients begin with an assessment, then choose the level of support that makes sense moving forward.

Discovery

1

We start with a short intake to understand:

  • what you’re noticing (or what your team is noticing)

  • what matters most to you (performance, longevity, aesthetics, resilience)

  • how the property is currently managed (gardener, fine gardening team, vendors)

  • any timing constraints (events, seasonal windows, project phases)

If you’re a property manager, we’ll also confirm communication flow and vendor requirements up front so the process stays smooth.

Walkthrough + Observation

2

We walk the property and look for patterns that often explain what’s happening above ground:

  • soil structure, compaction, drainage, and moisture behavior

  • plant performance, stress signals, and site exposures

  • irrigation clues (coverage, runoff, dry spots, chronic saturation)

  • pruning opportunities that improve structure, airflow, longevity, and light

This is also where we get aligned on priorities—what’s urgent, what’s seasonal, and what simply needs a better long-term plan.

Not every property needs testing every time. When it’s useful, we coordinate sampling and lab work to establish a baseline and guide recommendations.

We’ll always be clear about why we’re testing, what we’re looking for, and what decisions it will help you make.

Your Plan

4

You receive a practical, prioritized plan—written so it can be implemented by your existing team, or supported by MicroFauna where appropriate.

Your plan typically includes:

  • top priorities (what to do first + why)

  • recommended timing (now / seasonal window / monitor)

  • soil and plant health recommendations (inputs, adjustments, and realistic next steps)

  • pruning guidance when relevant (what, when, and the intended outcome)

  • notes for coordination (so everyone is working from the same playbook)

Support + Follow-through

5

After the plan, you can choose how involved you want MicroFauna to be. Some clients want a single assessment and clear direction. Others prefer ongoing support.

Support options often include:

  • seasonal check-ins and updated priorities

  • interpretation of results over time

  • targeted treatments (when appropriate)

  • coordination with gardeners, designers, and specialty vendors

Working With Existing Teams

MicroFauna fits best into what’s already working. Many of our projects run alongside a gardener or fine gardening team, and we’re comfortable working as a behind-the-scenes specialist.

We aim to make things easier for the people doing the day-to-day work by providing:

  • clarity on what matters most

  • realistic steps (not “rip everything out” recommendations)

  • simple coordination notes that keep the whole team aligned

Documentation & Confidentiality

Discretion is normal in this work. Many properties we support operate with confidentiality expectations.

We can provide documentation upon request, including:

  • Certificates of insurance (COI)

  • Additional insured paperwork

  • NDAs

  • Vendor onboarding support

Service Area & Scheduling

MicroFauna serves the Puget Sound region, with a focus on private properties and high-standard gardens.

Scheduling varies seasonally. In general:

  • spring and early summer fill quickly

  • assessments are typically booked in advance

  • ongoing support can be built around your existing maintenance cadence

If you’re coordinating multiple vendors or have a narrow seasonal window, reaching out early helps us align with your timeline.

What We Don’t Do

MicroFauna is a specialist support layer—not a full-service maintenance crew. We don’t provide routine weekly garden labor or industrial landscape services. Our work is focused on soil health, targeted support, and fine pruning scopes that improve long-term structure and performance. When hands-on estate garden care is needed beyond our scope, we can coordinate with or recommend trusted fine-gardening partners and private estate gardeners—so your property has the right team in the right roles.
